The purpose of CanTone is to express our empathy to find innovative solutions to help
Ethnic Minorities (EM) change their lives in Hong Kong. We understand the long-lasting Cantonese communication barrier for Ethnic Minorities which affects their daily life, not only studying, but also working and living. ๐ญMany Ethnic Minority children in Hong Kong lack support and environment for practising Cantonese, which makes them easily lose interest in learning Chinese and also lose confidence of speaking Cantonese.
Our team is dedicated to creating more unique products to provide a safe and funny Cantonese learning environment for EM children to improve confidence to speak Cantonese, so that they can better integrate into Hong Kong society, and lead to social inclusion, which is the core value of CanTone.๐โค๏ธ๐งก๐๐๐
CanTone is social innovation idea which is decided to apply AI to provide basic Cantonese vocabulary pronunciation and listening exercises for them in the form of a Web App. The UI support languages include English, Urdu, Nepali, Bahasa Indonesia, Hindi. The web app will be integrated with some game elements in order to increase their learning motivation.
We already sound out to our potential users and target beneficiaries.๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ฆ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐ง They have expressed great interest in our project as being really amazing and empowering the kids to learn and speak the local language which they believe would make an impact on their lives.๐๐ป๐๐ป๐๐ป
We have also contacted our potential collaborators including some NGOs (e.g. Resolve Foundation, WeDo Global, Baptist Oi Kwan Social Service), Schools (e.g. Kiangsu-Chekiang College), and individuals to validate our idea. Their attitude is positive and some of them even said they want to try it instantly.
